A collaborative leadership development experience

The Center for Exceptional Leadership’s cohort-based learning program begins with an individualized assessment of leadership style, strengths and weaknesses. Participants then enter a cohort program where, in the company of other leaders, they deepen their understanding of themselves and develop the habits of thoughtful leadership  all under the mentorship of a leadership-development team. Our executive coaches and cohort facilitators comprise the region’s preeminent team of authorities on personal and professional development.

The cohort-based leadership program is offered on three tracks:

  • Executive: C-suite, presidents and vice presidents
  • Senior: senior-level managers and directors
  • Foundational: team members new to leadership positions

Executive and Senior Leadership Programs

Over the course of the 16-month cohort program which begins with a four-day immersion session participants define a set of development goals, then devise and execute a formal project to achieve them.

Foundational Leadership Program

Beginning with a full-day retreat, followed by seven monthly half-day sessions, participants explore topics such as self-awareness, motivation and influence, being inclusive, coaching for performance, and creating team culture and lasting impact. Ultimately, each participant creates a lasting strategy for developing themselves and others that is integrated with their organizational priorities and objectives.

Assessment
The first phase of the Center for Exceptional Leadership program is assessment, through which individuals learn about themselves, their strengths, their triggers and their derailers. An executive coach works with participants to help them understand the assessment results, and then, with the participant’s direct leader, they start to build an Individual Development Plan (IDP).
Immersion
The second phase of the Center for Exceptional Leadership program is immersion, in which participants are placed in a cohort for leadership-development experience. Executive and Senior cohorts participate in a four-day intensive immersion experience, while Foundational cohorts take part in a full-day retreat.

Immersion introduces a variety of tools and topics to help participants better understand their true selves — and, in the process, discover ways to more effectively lead others.

The third phase of the program, cohort, takes this process further.
Cohort
The final phase of the Center for Exceptional Leadership program is cohort, in which participants meet regularly with their cohort group, taking a deeper dive into the topics and concepts of leadership development they learned in the first two phases. Executive and Senior cohorts meet another 12 times over 14 months, while Foundational cohorts meet another seven times.

In addition, participants apply the tools they are acquiring to an identified project within their organization — closing the loop on the entire process and allowing participants to embed behaviors that will serve them the remainder of their careers.

Examples of topics explored during this session include:
  • Adaptive leadership
  • Visioning and strategic thinking
  • Motivating and influencing
  • Leading change
  • Coaching high performance
  • Building organizational culture
