About Alexia Lopes

Alexia Lopes has experience teaching sport management courses, which is the area she focused on at the University of South Carolina. The courses she taught were Business Principles in Sport Management; Intro to Event and Venue Management; and Women in Sports. The last course was her own design and new approach to emphasize DEI discussion in sports. Her experience with online teaching comes from teaching business courses (i.e., Human Resources and Leadership) at Carolina University.

Lopes is very committed to volunteer work. She has volunteered several times in Peru, where she taught in an NGO. She went back two times, and plans another trip there at the end of December. She has taught English to children in poor communities in Brazil as a volunteer as well.

She was born and raised in Brazil and is an Italian citizen who studied and worked in Belgium for almost five years. She moved to the U.S. in 2019 to pursue a Ph.D in sport management at the University of South Carolina. In her free time, Lopes enjoys hiking, traveling and cycling.

Scholarship and research interests

Lopes focuses on DEI issues in sports. Her main research lineage concentrates on women in sport management. She also has a research line focusing on athletes who migrate to the US from other countries to compete. The sports she focuses on are motorsports (i.e., auto racing and motocross/supercross). Lopes is associated with North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM)
