About Marc A. Hammer

Judge Marc Hammer graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1986. He secured his Bachelor of Arts with a major in political science and double minors in history and psychology.

Hammer graduated from the University of Missouri Columbia School of Law in 1989. He was a member of the University of Missouri Law Review and a member of the Order of Barristers.

Hammer practiced law from 1989 to 2008 in Green Bay and De Pere. He focused primarily on civil litigation and family law matters. He was appointed to the Circuit Court bench in 2008, and was re-elected to the Circuit Court in 2009 and 2015. He has taught business law, media law and trial advocacy at St. Norbert College since 1995. He also served as a pre-law advisor to undergraduate students on campus. He was named St. Norbert College Educator of the Year in 2019.

Hammer currently is a member of the American Bar Association, the State of Wisconsin Bar of Board Examiners (chair), the State Supreme Court Civil Jury Instruction Committee, the Wisconsin State Bar Association, the Brown County Bar Association (past president), the Village of Ashwaubenon Ethics Committee and the National Board of Trial Advocacy.

He is active in the local community. He serves as presiding judge for the Brown County Drug Treatment Court and is a past president of Cerebral Palsy Inc. and a former board member of Golden House/Family Violence Center. He also serves on the executive committee of the Domestic Violence Inter Agency Committee/Brown County Coordinated Community Response Team.
